The Rhythm in Our Blues

Saturday, January 28, 2023
Doors: 4pm | Show: 5pm

Woven deep into the fabric of black history is the culture of black music. From ballads to blues; from rock to rhythm, from Rap to Reggae from Soul to Gospel nothing tells the story of black culture better than the history of black music. From hymns to Hip-Hop this culture has used their art to paint their pain as well as their pleasure on the canvas of musical clefs and staffs. They responded to oppression and their oppressor by having “tuned them out” with tunes that explain and express all they felt.

In a world where many want their rhythm without accepting their blues we aim to kick-off black history month by paying tribute to black music at an event that can only be called “The Rhythm In Our Blues”. The City of Greenville has partnered with Divine Purpose Entertainment to bring Hunt County together in hope that we may defeat the adversities of our diversity.

The night will open featuring a hometown favorite band “The Blues Doctors”. Following them will be three amazing bands, each assigned a decade of timeless black music to take us on a journey through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Grab your family get dressed according to your favorite decade and head on over to the Greenville Municipal auditorium for a free night of musical celebration.
